Nashville, Tenn.: United Methodist News will host a pre-General Conference news briefing Jan. 23-24, 2020, at the Omni Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., in preparation for the 2020 General Conference of The United Methodist Church.

The briefing aims to help delegates, communicators, agency and annual conference staff and other interested parties prepare for the denomination's legislative body when it meets in Minneapolis, Minn., May 5-15, 2020.

A welcoming reception will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 22, where attendees can get to know others who will be at General Conference. The following two days will provide opportunities to learn more about key topics and legislation, what to expect in Minneapolis and much more. Breakout sessions are planned for delegates and communicators, and time will be available for networking in the evening. An exhibit fair will take place throughout the event to showcase resources available from United Methodist agencies and partners.

"We will share information about what is planned for General Conference and the Minneapolis area," said Tim Tanton, United Methodist Communications' chief news officer. "Attendees will hear from knowledgeable speakers with varying perspectives as they discuss issues that will come before the global gathering of United Methodists."

The cost of registration is $199 before Oct. 31 and $249 thereafter. A $100 rebate will be provided for each reserved room for people staying at the Omni Nashville Hotel. To register online, visit the registration website. Questions about the briefing can be emailed to PreGC2020@umcom.org.
