Reconciliation Ministry Conference Report 

The 2^nd Reconciliation Ministry Conference was held by the United Methodist Committee on Reunification and Reconciliation of Korea on May 2-5, 2005, at CentralKoreanUnitedMethodistChurch in Prospect Heights, Illinois, sponsored by the Northern Illinois Conference of the UnitedMethodistChurch, the General Board of Discipleship, and the General Board of Global Ministries. 

Purpose:

The committee's main emphasis has been to promote "reconciliation, peace, and reunification." The reconciliation ministry conference was held to help and prepare the Korean United Methodist pastors and congregations to fulfill the call to be peacemakers in situations of conflicts.    

Program:

The program consisted of opening and closing worship services, morning prayers each day, three keynote speakers, and different workshops. Dr. Andrew Sung Park, Professor of Theology at the United Methodist Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, delivered an inspiring and insightful lecture on "Han and Reconciliation." Dr. Ji Yeon Yeo, Professor of Political Science at NorthwesternUniversity, spoke on "Reunification in the context of Immigration," shedding light on the important role of immigrants in the process of peace and reconciliation.   Rev. Eric Foley gave a speech on "Biblical Peacemaking." The workshops were on the enneagram system (personality type) and reconciliation, healthy congregation, the conflict resolution in immigrant churches, and body prayer. 

Participation and Response:

A total of 77 clergy and laity from all over the states participated in the conference. 17 of those submitted the evaluation forms. The respondents considered Dr. Park's lecture and the enneagram workshop as the most helpful. 

The overall rate was A (9 respondents) and B (8 respondents).     

Next Year's Plan:

The 3^rd Reconciliation Ministry Conference will be held on May 7-10, 2006, in Los Angeles. The focus of this conference is to introduce "Just Peace Ministry," United Methodist reconciliation program. We will continue to seek ways to help, guide, and promote peacemaking and reconciling ministries in the Korean United Methodist Churches.
