GCAH proposes legislation at GC

The General Commission of Archives and History (GCAH) is submitting two petitions to General Conference 2020 when the legislative gathering meets April 23-May 3, 2024, in Charlotte, N.C.

One piece of legislation addresses record keeping for churches that have disaffiliated from The United Methodist Church.

Another piece concerns the definition of United Methodist Heritage Landmarks.

The United Methodist Church currently has given this distinction to 49 sacred sites. A Heritage Landmark is a location specifically related to significant events, developments, or personalities in the history of The United Methodist Church.

A petition submitted to General Conference 2020 is set to add another five Heritage Landmarks to the list.

The proposed new Heritage Landmarks are Helenor M. Alter Davisson's grave site at Barkley Township, Indiana; Western Union, now Westmar College campus in Le Mars, Iowa; Lakeside Chautauqua Cluster, Lakeside, Ohio; Christ United Methodist Church, Honolulu, Hawaii; and Wolcott United Methodist Church, Wolcott, Vermont.
