General Conference 2020 seeking worship groups and liturgy writers

The 2020 General Conference worship design team invites United Methodists choirs, worship ensembles and liturgy writers from around the world to apply to be part of the worship experience of the 2020 General Conference. Creatives worship designers and leaders may apply* to share their talents while leading the church body during The United Methodist Church’s top legislative assembly meeting May 5 -15, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Deadline for all applications is Sept. 15, 2019.

“When liturgists from across the connection bring their voices together in prayer and celebration, the power and beauty of God is manifested in a sacred way,” said Raymond Trapp, General Conference worship and music director.

Individuals may apply to write or provide original liturgy for General Conference by submitting a letter of application with a sample of liturgy based on Philippians 3:14 and the name of the writer, email address, phone number and local church name. The sample must include a 5-minute devotion, a call to worship and a prayer of confession. All liturgy submitted, regardless of use by the General Conference, becomes the intellectual property of General Conference and may be used and/or distributed with the proper citation at the worship team’s discretion.

Groups interested in performing at the 2020 General Conference during worship services and/or a lunchtime showcase venue should submit a letter of application that includes the group’s name; primary contact person’s name, email and phone number; ensemble’s brief history/bio with the number of members, their general age range, location, and unique characteristics; and link to a private YouTube video of them performing. “One of the many strengths of the United Methodist Church is the variety of gifts in our denomination. General Conference affords us an opportunity to experience God in many ways in a central location,” Trapp said.
