All through the month of June (2019), Global Ministries is highlighting stories and content on the rights of migrants across the globe and the many ways the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is providing support for them.

Today the world is seeing the largest recorded human migration in history as 258 million people are on the move to escape war, violence, persecution, poverty and disasters both natural and man-made. Of those 68 million have migrated as result of being forcibly displaced, 25 million fit the definition of refugee, 3 million are asylum seekers and over 40 million are internally displaced (still living in the same country, but in a different and unfamiliar region). 40% of all migrants are women and over 50% are children who face an uncertain future.

UMCOR seeks to relieve human suffering across the world among persons of all races, nationalities and creeds. UMCOR recognizes the four rights of migrants as follows:

1. The right to stay

2. The right to safe passage

3. The right to welcoming and belonging

4. The right to return
