Pastors quickly adapt during COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 crisis prompted the Research team at United Methodist Communications to ask pastors to brainstorm solutions around our shared challenges during this time. They did this via online focus groups on April 22 and 23, 2020. This was a unique opportunity to learn from one another, sharing creative ways to do the work of religious communities in this time of anxiety when many need spiritual comfort and hope.

We have created summary videos (highlight reels) of the discussions. The videos convey a very adaptive United Methodist Church, capable of new ways of conducting ministry and supporting members. Generally, pastors have a very positive outlook, with some caution as they look forward to the next phase of recovering from the pandemic.

Topics Discussed

  • Current worship/adaptability
  • Congregation well-being
  • Finances
  • Mental state
  • Mourning
  • Top priorities
  • Future
