Media Credentials Application

Media representatives and church communicators must complete and submit an application to receive media credentials for the postponed 2020 United Methodist General Conference to be held April 23-May 3, 2024.

Credentials must be requested for each representative of a media outlet, including photographers. A confirmation will be sent acknowledging receipt of your credential request. (It's also recommended that you check the option on the application form to be copied on your submission.)

Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified as quickly as possible whether your request has been approved.

The newsroom is reserved for working press only.

Media credentials are required to receive access to the newsroom, media seating and news briefings.

To be accredited, individuals must represent a recognized news organization such as a newspaper, wire service, television, radio station, magazine or ongoing newsletter, or must serve as a communicator for a United Methodist agency, annual conference or other church entity. Bloggers and podcasters may also qualify for credentials if they are affiliated with such a news organization or publication.

Credentialed media are expected to comply with all guidelines. Failure to do may result in loss of media credentials, photography privileges and registration.

Applicants may submit a request for credential online no later than April 8, 2024 (or on-site throughout the General Conference). All credentials, including those that are pre-approved, will be issued on-site at the General Conference registration desk in the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC. At on-site check-in, applicants will be asked to provide a press ID or letter from the organization’s management or other proof of status.

Anyone who receives credentials does so with the understanding that they may not participate in demonstrations or serve as a lobbyist. Violation of this understanding will result in loss of media credentials.

Credentialed media may not act as spokespersons or give interviews within the newsroom area.

According to the rules of the General Conference, “no electronic recording by either video or audio may be made of any portion of the General Conference unless specifically authorized by the Business Manager of the General Conference in order to maintain the integrity of all performance licenses.”

A limited number of photo passes may be checked out at the press room for 15-minute periods (passes may not be checked out for consecutive time blocks). No registered media photographers may enter the floor of the session. Photos must be taken from the perimeter of the delegates seating area. Only conference staff photographers can access the entire floor, and these photos will be made available for media use with proper crediting.

Media will be responsible for their own equipment needs.

All equipment and personal/company property left unattended is at your own risk. Any loss or damage of property brought on the premises is the responsibility of the attendee.

Wireless access will be available throughout the center. Limited wired internet access and electrical outlets will be available in the newsroom.

For Annual Conference and UMC agency communicators only: If utilizing the small lighted video area, your guest(s) will need to check in with the Public Information team and will have a limited time temporary pass that must be returned when exiting. Access is first come, first served when available.

The Public Information team is not responsible for any travel related costs incurred.
