DECISION NO. 1402 — IN RE: Request from the Michigan Annual Conference for a Declaratory Decision on whether the “performance of ceremonies that celebrate homosexual unions…by our ministers” is “distinctively connectional” and therefore within the powers granted to the General Conference in Paragraph 16, Article IV of the Constitution of the United Methodist Church or whether General Conference exceeded its constitutionally granted power in prohibiting the performance of “ ceremonies that celebrate homosexual unions…by our ministers” in ¶ 341.6 of the 2016 Book of Discipline and in making the performance of these ceremonies a chargeable offense under ¶ 2702.1.b.
