Communications agency launches social media strategy course

Nashville, Tennessee – Revitalize Your Church’s Social Media, a new facilitated course from United Methodist Communications, will help local churches to reconsider social media through a strategic lens. Participants will build a social media plan and discover fresh new ways to engage their audiences while balancing legal and ethical concerns. The four-week training will be held July 31 through August 25, 2023. Registration for the course is available online through July 27, 2023.

Weekly, the class will present two live facilitated web training sessions led by communications experts from United Methodist Communications (recordings available). The gatherings will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1pm CT to provide facilitated conversation and topical Q&As. Participants will also be prompted to read articles, watch videos and interact on a discussion board. The course will include an emphasis on applying what trainees learn along the way to make their church’s social media more engaging and meet communications goals.

Training highlights include:

Week 1: The Big Picture – See how social media fits into your church’s communications, make sound decisions about the platforms and understand analytics

Week 2: The Plan – Learn to develop a social media calendar and keep consistent branding

Week 3: The Practice – Engage your congregation and community with captivating and engaging content

Week 4: The Practicalities – Understand the legal and ethical guidelines for using social media, craft a social media policy and create a custom plan with concrete next steps to level up your church’s social media accounts.

Upon completion, Revitalize Your Church’s Social Media participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and 2.0 CEUs awarded by the United Methodist Communications Training Center.

“Most churches use social media to share events, which is great, but there are often missed opportunities for richer engagement with followers,” said Senior Training and Development Specialist, Kelly Tracy. “We’ve designed this course to give local churches concrete, doable strategies to audit and level up their social media presence.”
