‘UN-TIED METHODISM’ TO RELEASE TWO EPISODES MONTHLY IN ADVANCE OF GC2020
Podcast hosted by Dr. Ashley Boggan D. Offers Deep Dive into GC-Related Topics
Madison, N.J. – “Un-Tied Methodism,” the podcast produced by the General Commission on Archives and History and hosted by Dr. Ashley Boggan D., is moving to a twice per month release schedule through General Conference 2020, to be held in April in Charlotte, N.C. The change is effective immediately with today’s episode titled “Multiplying Love: The Wesleyan vision for a polarized world.” The episode features the Rev. Dr. Paul Chilcote, renowned Wesley scholar, discussing his new book, Multiplying Love: A Vision of United Methodist Life Together.
Doubling the number of "Un-Tied Methodism" episodes in the months ahead offers an opportunity for Boggan, GCAH's general secretary, and her guests to examine General Conference topics, including its history, legislation and what's coming at the 2024 event. In addition, other episodes will feature conversations about a Lent devotional based on the writings of John and Charles Wesley, Methodist women who impacted the denomination, and the Black Church in the Western Jurisdiction.
Since “Un-Tied Methodism” launched on April 24, 2021, Boggan and her guests have addressed a wide range of topics, including the connection between United Methodists and Welch’s Grape Juice, racism in The UMC, the history of the Reconciling Ministry Network, UMC Discipline Paragraph 2548.2, Native People and Methodism and Methodism in Zimbabwe.
“The United Methodist Church has a complicated history, which is why our podcast tagline is ‘unraveling the past to make sense of today,’” Boggan explains. “General Conference 2020 promises to be a historical time in our denomination's history. As we look at The United Methodist Church and its predecessor denominations on the podcast, our hope is that we can better understand why our church is the way it is and where we might be headed.”
“Un-Tied Methodism” is set to release new episodes on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month through April across most podcast platforms. A library of episodes, including the most recent ones, can be found at ResourceUMC.org/ArchivesandHistory.
