PORTLAND, Oregon: Applications for media credentials for the 2016 United Methodist General Conference are now being accepted.
Every four years, the top legislative body of The United Methodist Church convenes for a 10-day meeting to revise church law, as well as to adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. The body also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs for the next four years.
Nearly 900 delegates from the U.S., Africa, Europe, and the Philippines will gather in Portland, Oregon, on May 10-20 as the denomination’s top policy-making body.
Plenary sessions and legislative committee meetings of the General Conference are open both to the public and to the news media. News media are required to be credentialed in order to gain access to the newsroom, media seating on the main plenary floor, and press conferences and news briefings involving delegates and church leaders.
Members of the news media may apply for media credentials either online, by mail, or on-site at the conference beginning May 10.
Media who cannot cover the event on-site will find that many of the special addresses, celebrations, and other plenary sessions will be available via live video streaming on the General Conference website and mobile app, along with news updates, high-resolution photos and other information.
