United Methodist Communications
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 23, 2021
Nashville, Tenn.: United Methodist Communications, in collaboration with other denominational leaders, is building on the People of God campaign, launched in 2020. The addition of a new hashtag and call-to-action – #BeUMC – invites church members to embody the church’s values, embrace its aspirations, and remain with The United Methodist Church even in difficult times.
The People of God campaign celebrates key attributes that are important to United Methodists and serves as a reminder of how they are living out their faith as people of God. Each month has focused on a specific word: faithful, missional, committed, spirit-filled, deeply rooted, connected, resilient, justice-seeking and diverse. The words were chosen to reflect the denomination’s faith, heritage, values, history, diversity, connection and global footprint.
The #BeUMC message further calls the audience to embrace their Wesleyan heritage and envision a promising future. Every day is an opportunity to live into our mission and strive to #BeUMC -- to be the church our world so desperately needs. We celebrate that God’s grace is not static, but meets us where we are as we grow in mission and faith.
“United Methodist Communications is excited to communicate the vibrant ministry and disciple making that happens in The United Methodist Church as people grow in relationship with Jesus Christ,” said Dan Krause, chief agency executive.
Campaign resources include graphics that illustrate each of the associated words and story content that demonstrates how church members are living out the core values that connect the people of The United Methodist Church. New inspirational content will be developed throughout the year that reflects the diversity of voices from across the globe.
Beginning with July 2021, new graphics will include the #BeUMC hashtag. They will appear in denominational advertising and may be used by local churches, annual conferences and other United Methodist organizations on their websites and social media channels. Each month focuses on a specific word. The graphics will continue to be built in multiple languages, and previous graphics will soon be updated with the new hashtag.
Congregations may use any of the graphics from the entire collection to reflect their own activities and tell their own stories. The hashtag may also be used apart from the graphics, as churches and members share the stories of United Methodist churches around the world in their own social media posts.
