Newsletter helps support advancement of women within the church

Chicago, Ill. – A new monthly e-newsletter produced by the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) will serve as a resource to help equip United Methodists to embrace the role of women within the church more fully.

Wisdom Talks: Engaging. Empowering. Equipping is a monthly e-newsletter designed to communicate information to facilitate the advancement of women at all levels of The United Methodist Church. It highlights content that focuses on GCSRW's four areas of work: monitoringsexual ethicsleadership and education. The subject matter is designed to inspire and inform women and their advocates with timely and relevant information while highlighting key resources throughout the year.

"The name Wisdom Talks is a nod to Proverbs where lady wisdom invites us to listen and to learn in how we may participate in creating the kingdom of God," shared Dawn Wiggins Hare, General Secretary for the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women in a video greeting. "It also serves as a reminder that everyone, including women, is created in the image of God. So we invite everyone, including men, to join us in our community as we seek to engage, empower and equip women for the full inclusion and responsibility in the life of The United Methodist Church."

GCSRW developed and launched the new resource in partnership with United Methodist Communications (UMCOM), the global communications agency of The United Methodist Church.

"The idea for Wisdom Talks was birthed out of reviewing data collected from a communications audit/survey that UMCom conducted on GCSRW's behalf," noted Aileen Jimenez, Manager of Hispanic/Latino Leader Communications at United Methodist Communications, who also functions as the Director of Communications for GCSRW, as the partnership liaison between the agencies. "UMCom and GCSRW both share a joint commitment to being effective communicators to continually strengthen ministry efforts. It's an honor to partner with them in strategizing for their future ministry communications endeavors."

GCSRW's newsletter journey started with the printed Flyer periodical and then moved to the Commission's Report, which ceased at the end of 2021. United Methodists can now partake of Wisdom Talks by signing up via an online subscription form.
