Heritage Sunday, celebrated the third Sunday of May, is a time for United Methodists to reflect on their legacy and consider their own place in the story of The United Methodist Church.
“The people called Methodists cannot easily be defined. When we seek to celebrate our heritage, we recognize that we represent different cultures, varying theological interpretations and may not agree on some issues," says Dr. Ashley Boggan D., GCAH's general secretary. " However, at our core, we know that God’s love is a common denominator and that we are to be beacons of this enduring love to all we meet,”
"Rooted and Grounded in love" is the theme of Heritage Sunday 2024. Discipleship Ministries provides liturgy, sermon notes, prayers and hymn suggestions as a resource for United Methodist congregations.
Heritage Sunday is a time for United Methodists around the world to thank God for the enduring heritage of The United Methodist Church and consider our legacy in the story of our denomination.
